Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of South Africa Dr. Valery Hrebeniuk met with Executive Mayor of City of Cape Town Mr. Alderman Dan Plato.

During the meeting sides discussed Ukrainian-South African relations in the spheres of regional cooperation, economy and tourism, as well as experience of Cape Town in conducting World Cup - 2010 and its outcome for the city.

Mr. Alderman Plato expressed his pleasure from conducting such large-scale international event, that had brought significant political, economic and tourist dividends for South Africa and the city. In particular, the Mayor informed that the established infrastructure for the World Cup had played important role not only during the sport events of 2010, but now is actively working for the city. The result is the recovery of economic life of the city and significant increase of tourists in comparison with previous years. According to the Mayor, the championship has opened new South Africa to the world.

In the context of the European Football Championship - 2012 in Ukraine, the Ambassador informed about the preparation of our country for this event and expressed interest in adopting experience of Cape Town in preparation and conducting of the Championship.

As a result of the meeting sides agreed on the possibility of cooperation in this sphere between South African and Ukrainian experts.
