The Ukrainian section at Freedom Park (SA) Wall of Names Monument has been enriched with the name of another distinguished figure in the global struggle against apartheid – Mr Volodymyr Kravets (03.05.1930 – 22.07.2011). A prominent Ukrainian diplomat, Mr Kravets served as Permanent Representative of the Ukrainian SSR to the United Nations, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the USSR, and Vice-Chairperson of the UN Special Committee against Apartheid.Alongside Mr Hennadii Udovenko, whose name was inscribed earlier, Mr Kravets dedicated much of his diplomatic career to confronting the inhuman apartheid regime and standing up for the values of justice and equality in South Africa. Their legacy serves as a powerful reminder of Ukraine’s consistent commitment to human rights and freedom. The unveiling ceremony was led by Ambassador Liubov Abravitova, who underlined Ukraine’s enduring solidarity with the South African people.Such commemorations highlight the deep historical ties between our nations, and our shared dedication to liberty, dignity, and justice.
