On 11 April, Embassy of Ukraine hosted in Johannesburg the renowned girl band from Ukraine “Dakh Daughters” and their “spiritual father” Vlad Troitskyi. It was a two-part event: a Ukrainian-African choreographic performance, followed by a concert. The performance was about Ukrainian children killed and abducted by Russia.
The music, vocals, video footage, and choreography were Ukrainian. The performers were South Africans. With references to both African and Ukrainian history.
The following concert was raw, poignant, and without a single false note.
As venue was chosen the Market Theatre in Johannesburg, a place of spiritual and cultural resistance against apartheid. A hospitable host, not afraid to be political.
The embassy thanks sponsors and co-organizers: the Norwegian and Austrian embassies, International Renaisanse Foundation, and Ukrainian Institute
