On April 28th, Embassies of Ukraine and Sweden in cooperation with Ukrainian Association of South Africa conducted in Johannesburg a public viewing of the documentary “Vika’s Last Assignment” dedicated to Ukrainian journalist Viktoria Roshchyna, who was illegally detained, tortured and killed by Russian occupiers in Ukraine’s South.
All Ukraine was shocked when Viktoria’a body - badly mutilated and missing many organs - was exchanged by her tormentors in February 2025. “Viktoria’s story is a reminder that occupation is not peace but death of freedom and endless atrocities”, - said Olexander Scherba in his concluding word upon the viewing. In the following discussion, one of creators Yanina Kornienko told about heroism of Viktoria and other Ukrainian journalists who, despite deadly risk, shed light on russian crimes on the occupied territories.
