Ambassador of Ukraine to South Africa, H.E. Olexander Scherba will participate in the 2026 Tocqueville Conversations, taking place on 26–27 June at the historic Château de Tocqueville in Normandy, France, where Alexis de Tocqueville wrote his seminal work Democracy in America.
This year’s edition, held under the theme “The Future of Our European Democracies: What Would Tocqueville Say?”, will bring together leading political, diplomatic, academic and civil society figures from across Europe and North America to discuss the challenges facing democratic societies and the future of the European project.
During the discussions, Ambassador Scherba will share Ukraine’s perspective on the defence of democracy, freedom and international law in the face of Russia’s ongoing war of aggression, as well as the broader implications of the war for the future of Europe and the democratic world.
Organised by the Tocqueville Foundation in partnership with Le Figaro, the Tocqueville Conversations have become one of the leading forums for transatlantic dialogue on democracy, governance and international affairs.
