On April 8th, Ambassador
Olexander Scherba presented his credentials to President Cyril Ramaphosa. In his short introduction, he said the following:
Your Excellency! Mr. President!
For me and my family, it is an honour and a joy to be in your amazing country.
Three decades ago, it became an inspiration for all humanity by ending the greatest injustice of that era and winning freedom for your people.
This was possible for two reasons: the courage of your people and the solidarity of those who supported them around the world.
Today, my country stands for the very same two reasons: the courage of Ukrainians and the solidarity of those who support us.
And I will ask you for your help in ending the greatest injustice of our time. Because now it is my people whose freedom is being challenged & denied.
Mr. President!
My wife and I are beginning our mission as humble guests and proud Ukrainians. I hope that when we complete it, we will also, to some extent, proud South Africans.
Thank you for having us!
