Briefing-discussion “Protecting Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity of Ukraine and Georgia: the Challenges of reconciling International Law and Practice”

On 3 May 2018, the Embassy of Ukraine in South Africa and the Embassy of Georgia in South Africa co-hosted briefing-discussion on the topic “Protecting Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity of Ukraine and Georgia: the Challenges of reconciling International Law and Practice”.

During the event, Ukraine’s Chargé d’Affaires Liubov Abravitova and Georgia’s Ambassador Beka Dvali, in their presentations briefed the attending South African experts, international law specialists, representatives of South African media and the diplomatic corps accredited to South Africa on the challenges and threats posed by Russia to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries, as they continue to strengthen their statehood based on the rule of law and pursue the policies of European integration.

Chargé d’Affaires Liubov Abravitova spoke on the ongoing Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, as well as reflected on the peaceful policies employed by Ukrainian Government, in coordination with international community, to resolve the conflict with ultimate objective of restoring territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Liubov Abravitova also touched upon the humanitarian situation and systemic violations of human rights by Russian Federation on the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
