Scientific and technological cooperation between Ukraine and South Africa

In the recent years scientific and technological cooperation between Ukraine and South Africa has been intensified.

On 29 September 2016 the Memorandum of Understanding between the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) and the State Space Agency of Ukraine (SSAU) on Cooperation in Research and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space was signed in Guadalajara (Mexico). The document entered into force in December 2016. Within the framework of the mentioned memorandum, a meeting of the Chairman of SSAU Mr. Degtyarenko and Chief Executive Officer of SANSA Mr. Munsami was held on 4 October 2018. During the meeting the parties discussed issues aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the space sphere as well as implementation of various mutually beneficial projects.

On 26 February 2018 the Memorandum of Understanding between the State Agency of Fisheries of Ukraine and the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the Republic of South Africa concerning the Scheme of International Scientific Observation of the Commission for the Conservation of the Antarctic Marine Living Resources was signed in Pretoria. The Memorandum is a new sphere of bilateral cooperation that has created opportunities for exchange of experience on the practices of international scientific observation of fishing activity and will definitely positively influence specialized science and as wells as practical skills of such observations by researchers of both countries.

On 20 March 2019 Program on Cooperation in Research and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space between State Space Agency of Ukraine and South African National Space Agency was signed within the framework of Global Space Congress in Abu-Dhabi (UAE).

Conclusion of the draft Agreement between the National Academy of Science of Ukraine and Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa on Scientific and Technological Cooperation in the Field of Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy is an important issue of bilateral relations.

In 2015 a cooperation agreement between International Management Institute (Kyiv, Ukraine) and Business School of Stellenbosch University (Cape Town, South Africa) was signed. Since then joint programs for Ukrainian students have been held every year in South Africa. Within the framework of this cooperation, in March 2018 a Senior Executive MBA program took place in Johannesburg and Cape Town, jointly organized by International Management Institute, Business School of Stellenbosch University and Gordon Institute of Business Science of the University of Pretoria.
