21 January, 17:29
Best wishes to all Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine on the Day of Unity from Embassy of Ukraine to the Republic of South Africa!
This official holiday symbolizes the unity of Ukrainian land. It іs celebrated annually on the day of the proclamation of the Act of Reunification of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the Western Ukrainian People's Republic which took place on January 22, 1919, on Sofia Square in Kyiv.
The unification of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the Western Ukrainian People's Republic became a model of a civilized, non-invasive gathering of territories in a single sovereign state.
The statement of Unification testifies to the self-awareness of Ukrainians, their goodwill to ethnic and territorial unity, an important stage in the formation of a political nation.
Today, when part of the Ukrainian territory is under Russian occupation, the celebration of the Day of Unity is extremely important. Our soldiers, volunteers, citizens are raised to protect the territorial integrity of the state under the slogan "UKRAINE IS UNITED!"
